ADRIFT To Finish Mixing Debut Album Next Month
October 23, 2004ADRIFT, the Tampa, Florida-based rock band featuring former CANNIBAL CORPSE guitarist Jack Owen, have issued an update on the status of the full-length record they were slated to record in August.
Commented drummer Kevin Astl: "It's been a crazy couple of months for ADRIFT. We did finish principal recording of our record at ARS Studios in Winter Park with our producer, John Hughes II. We have finished mixing two songs, 'Falling Shadows', which will be the lead single from the record, and the title track, 'Departure'. We still need to complete some overdubs, backing vocals, and some additional recording, but we should be able to knock that out in the next couple of weeks. We are looking at a tentative date to finalize the mix of about mid-to-late November, and then we will send it off to be mastered and manufactured."
When asked about the delay in completing the record, Astl said, "We had planned to get everything, recording, mixing, and mastering, done in ten days, but once we got to the studio, we realized that by doing so we would be depriving ourselves and our fans of the best product we can give them, so we decided to focus on making the best damn record we can, regardless of time. We also had several delays due to the recent spate of hurricanes that has plagued Florida. Still, we'd prefer to have the record done RIGHT and not just QUICK. And we strongly feel that it shows in the quality of the recording and our performances — everyone who has heard the mixes of the two songs and the roughs has told us that the songs on the record are well-written and memorable, which we really appreciate and makes us feel great. We are very proud of this record, and we hope that our fans and the public will enjoy it as much as we do."
In further ADRIFT news, Astl stated that "We have been lucky to recently obtain several corporate sponsors, and have been on the road quite a bit of late, having just come back from the three-day Big Spring Jam festival in Huntsville, Alabama. We are also confirmed for Clear Channel's annual Guavaween event here in historic Ybor City, and we are fortunate to have been given the coveted 7-7:30 p.m. slot directly prior to FUTURE LEADERS OF THE WORLD, SALIVA, and COLLECTIVE SOUL. We can't wait to play it — playing live is the best part of this whole music thing. We are already booking into next year, and are busy setting up several tours for 2005 and a vast marketing push in support of the record, so stay tuned for more from ADRIFT. We have a lot to give, and the next year will be very fulfilling for all of us, and we hope also for our fans."
